2 days tour from Cape Town to the Southernmost Tip of Africa, the Cape Agulhas

Day 1

Betty's Bay

Just over an hours drive away from Table Mountain we turn off in Gordon's Bay towards Clarens Drive. All the world praises Chapman's Peak Drive which is no doubt a landmark. However, the coastal road from Gordon's Bay to Betty's Bay is no less fascinating for the connoisseur in fact covering more than twice the distance.

Penguin

For those of you who so far hadn't had or won't have any chance to spot lovely African Penguins in Simon's Town do not miss out on a top alternative spot on this section.

Whales at Hermanus

Hermanus
For most of the coldest part of the year till end of November that ever growing town boasts some of the best whale watching in the whole wide world. As we stop for lunch: catch a glimpse! These gentle giants move surprisingly close to the beach.

Elim

The trip carries on through an impressive range of dunes to eventually reach Elim. Formerly an early missionary station that was established by eager fathers from Germany. Nowadays visitors enjoy thatched homes which were beautifully restored by descendants of the freed slaves.

Cape Agulhas

Cape Agulhas – here we go: the Southernmost Tip of Africa right in front of you. The lighthouse was designed in the shape of its historic model in Alexandria of ancient Egypt. It may well be claimed that this is the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

Cape Agulhas

Just a stone's throw away from the lighthouse lies a top lodge where you are going to stay for the night. You will quite certainly well remember the chat with your hosts Derick and his wife Petro not the least because he operates as a honorary ranger with South Africa's National Park's board. As such he is able to offer a wealth of information on the Needle Cape.

Day 2

Arniston

Arniston – what a jewel! The place boasts of lovely old and new cottages, an ideal sandy beach invites for a swim in the Indian Ocean. The quaint village is a national monument and well-known for its impressive cave that is only accessible during low tide.

Cape Agulhas ship wreck

The way back to Capetown leads through the pretty town of Bredasdorp where a shipwreck museum welcomes the visitor (optional).

Vergelegen

A very special winery in the Cape winelands: Vergelegen
Willem Adrian van der Stel did not appreciate the heritage of his renowned father Simon who served prior to him as a Dutch governor. Around 1700 Willem left Groot Constantia behind to realise his own dream of a farm designed according to his own master plan in the Hottentott-Holland mountains of Fals Bay, today part of Somerset West. Its unique garden is an attraction in itself.

view from Sir Lowry's Pass

The summit of Sir Lowry's pass right along the N2 highway on many a sunny afternoons offers a spectacular view of the majestic skyline of Table Mountain in the distance.
